Hugh's MP3 Pick:
Lori B.
"Hurricane Child"
Lori B. has come late to songwriting, after having spent years
as a dancer and performance artist. She has burst onto the scene
like a force of nature, opening many shows for Jorma Karkonen
and others, and her songs are fiercely independent, physical,
honest. So, the title track to her debut album, Hurricane Child,
is aptly named. Go to the following page - it's the first track.

The other tracks are equally fine and unusual songs. "Lucky
Blaze" tells the ironic story of a young woman who gets an
inheritance and freedom in exchange for her father, but tells
it straight. "Body Mine" tells the story of a woman
who, after being brutally raped, hovers between life and death
before choosing life through pure force of will. For more on Lori
