Sun 10th Davey Graham

Bromley Acoustic Music Club (020) 8466 1744

A very rare gig these days from the man who started it
all for UK fingerstyle 'folk blues and beyond' guitarists.
There's a good biography by John Pilgrim covering the
Liecester-born guitarist's arrival out of nowhere in
London as a seventeen year old in 1958, describing him
as, "one of those seminal talents who changed the way
music is made. While doing so he influenced musicians
right across the spectrum. In the sixties, when people
were more prepared to listen to something outside ready
made categories, folkies listened to him in amazement
and blues players with envy."

Sun 17th Oh Susanna

The Greys, Brighton (01273) 680734

Canadian singer-songwriter Suzie Ungerleider who is
known for her intensity of voice, words & music,
described by The Province as "Mixing the poetic
exuberance of a young Dylan, the gritty street imagery
of a Tom Waits and plenty of Jimmie Rogers/Hank
Williams rootsiness, Oh Susanna writes in blood and
sings like it hurts."

Sat 23rd Acaysha

Wath Folk Club, South Yorkshire Tel: 01226 752901

A strong, ambitious, all-female five piece outfit, Acaysha
provides a deliciously, unique sound. Described as
'Appalachi-contemperaneous-fusion' from their appearance
at the Gainsborough Old-Time Music festival in 1998,
Acaysha offers an eclectic mix of music with influences
taken from American Bluegrass Music, Old-time, Irish
Instrumentals and English folk through concentrating
mainly on original compositions. Their second album
"One Way Track" (A/U002) is out now following their
first success 'Uncovered' (A/U 001)

Sun 24th e2K

Phoenix Arts, Leicester 0116 255 4854

Rising from the ashes of Edward II - maximum danceability
with English roots, strong songs, and a party atmosphere.
But the material and the voice are different, and the grooves,
although guaranteed to make you move, are more African
than Reggae. With the stalwarts from Edward II joined by
Robert Fordjour (Hugh Masekela, Courtney Pine) on
drums and the vocals of Kelly While (also appearing with
The Albion Band), there is excitement in the air.

Tue 26th Jack Hardy

Dartford Folk Club

Describing his latest album, 'Omens' (Prime CD), UK's
Fish Records says, "Jack has a 'grainy' voice and carries
the wide range styles of with ease, on the fuller sounding
numbers you'd be forgiven for thinking you were listening
to Neil Young - they sound very alike. The 14 tracks
(plus hidden interview by Suzanne Vega before track one)
show why Jack is cited as an influence of many of the best
singer/songwriters operating today. This is an exceptional
album, varied, intelligent and full of great musicians
(including Kate MacLeod on fiddle). Highly recommended."
