forty covers of his songs, from Fairport Convention, De Dannan
and Dick Gaughan, he is known throughout Europe as "The Song
Poet". According to Dr Frederick Woods writing in The Oxford

The Courtyard, Hereford 01432 359252

Described by the UK National newspaper The Daily Telegraph as
"The brightest light in English folk music, Rusby is blessed with a
delightful voice, an engaging, down-to-earth personality, and
refreshing musical integrity." According to her website "she spends
half her life having surreal conversations with total strangers who
bound up to her saying "I hate folk music, but I love YOU!!"

Thur 8th Judy Cook
http://judycook.net
Royal Oak, Lewes, East Sussex. (01273 478124)

According to Lou Killen "Judy Cook is one of the finest exponents
of ballad singing that the current American folk music revival has
produced. Her depth of understanding and story-telling ability in
ballad form is rivaled only by her dedication to the music and her
willingness to do her research. But all that aside - I'd go and listen
to her anytime and anywhere.” Her latest album 'Far From The
Lowlands' is a collection of 19 unaccompanied songs and ballads.

Top Welsh traditional band featuring Julie Murphy, Andy Cutting,
Ceri Rhys Matthews and Jonathan Shrotland. They have just
completed recording their third album, entitled 'Whilia'. Sing Out!
magazine described their last album 'Ca' nos' as "frankly nothing
short of stunning and we can only hope to hear much more from
Fernhill in the future."

Thur 22nd Dave Swarbrick & Martin Carthy
http://www.folkicons.co.uk/swarb.htm
Fibbers,York

Swarb and Martin have released a new live album. The unusual
thing about this one is that it was recorded in 1966 in Nottingham
and includes their experience of travelling to the gig on a train that
ran over a cow! References were made at the time to awarding
the driver both ears and the tail, hence the title (Atrax Records).
Martin's notes are poignant and witty and the whole project was
made possible by the sound engineer from the gig, Keith Brake,
who had kept the tape in immaculate condition for 34 years.

Tue 27th Sally Barker

Dartford Folk Club, Kent 01322 222 553

Dish'.

Beethovens, Reading, Berks 0118 942 7517

Welsh Celtic folk/rock band who, according to US magazine Exposé,
reviewing their second album 'Storms', "blend eastern and Celtic
influences, powerful female vocals and symphonic arrangements into
their song-based progressive sound...an exciting album certain to
appeal to fans of All About Eve, Iona, modern Clannad and Renaissance.
The ten well-written tracks are timeless and provide an excellent
introduction to this emerging and very talented band."
