Amilia K. Spicer

Originally from Pennsylvania, Spicer moved to Los Angeles a few years ago with the intention of becoming a film director. Although the visual medium inspired her, she disappeared after an Oscar nomination to try songwriting. Soon she was performing around town, as a solo artist on keyboard, or with a backing band. After two years of performing, The National Academy of Songwriters named her Female Artist of the Year. She currently tours solo at more acoustic venues (including the Bitter End in New York, Club Passim in Boston, McCabes in Santa Monica), but when she reunites with her LA- based band the more rocking, edgy layer comes out.

Spicer has been a Mainstage Performer at the Kerrville Folk Festival; she's featured on the Women of Kerrville Vol. 2 CD, and was selected to Judge the 1999 New Folk Competition. She's also a Guest columnist for New Texas Magazine, where her stream-of-consciousness meanderings cover music, travel, food, and esoteric entropy. She recently got word that her music will be included in a fourth movie soundtrack. She also wrote and performed two songs for Roger Corman's Macon County Jail and "Million Years" is included in a compilation called Women of Heart and Mind from Quail Records, London.

Based in Chicago, The Sons of the Never Wrong are Bruce Roper, Susan Demel, and Deborah Lader. Their first two albums, Three Good Reasons and Consequence of Speech, are on Waterbug Records.

Sue writes: "i guess you could say we
are: mid-western, mid-lifers, traveling the middle of the world trying to
write music that isn't the middle of the road. our influences span that
globe and include prine, roches, sarah vaughn, ladysmith, our favorite
poets, parents, and pets. we hope in our own way our music can strike a
chord made up of odd notes & become a part of people's lives, we also hope
to buy a winnebago and win the lottery some day, but until then we will
keep writing, singing, and dancing."
