Andrew Calhoun

Andrew Calhoun took on the avocation of the song poet at age 15. Raised on Homer, C.S. Lewis and Scots balladry, he skipped college, and studied his craft to become one of the most respected songwriters in the folk scene. His early albums, Walk Me To The War and Gates of Love were released by Flying Fish. Later, he founded Waterbug Records to promote a style of songwriting that he calls "American Impressionist." The label's impressive history includes releasing debut albums by Dar Williams, Leslie Smith, Chuck Brodsky, as well as championing the early efforts of Rose Polenzani, Erin McKeown and Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer. His own Waterbug releases include Hope, Phoenix Envy and Where Blue Meets Blue (see Ed.'s review).

Claire Bard

Claire Bard, singer-songwriter, guitarist and activist, makes her home in Portland, Oregon. A well-kept secret. She grew up in cities and small towns around the country, the longest stay being in the remote mining town of Gabbs, Nevada. She has a degree in English Literature from Lew & Clark College and has worked as a caregiver for the disabled, insurance sales rep, gas station attendant, bodyguard and dog bather.

Growing up, Claire enjoyed singing in church and school choirs. A childhood ambition of being a singer was rekindled in the summer of 1996 when her first song took her by surprise. Music became her passion, as she continued writing songs, recording, learning to play guitar, and performing, both solo and with bands, which have included pop, traditional Irish and other acoustic styles. As a red-card carrying member of the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies), she provides guitar and vocals for picket line rabble-rousers The Joe Hillbillies. She also works as a studio vocalist and is on the staff at the Kerrville Folk Festival. She has performed as a backup singer at The Sierra Songwriter's Festival, Winterfolk XII at the Aladdin Theater, and live on KINK FM radio.

This track was recorded live at the Paradise Eatery in Willimantic CT.
