United for Songs In the Classroom, Inc.)
A nonprofit organization promoting the interdisciplinary use of popular music
in education; publishes a source book for teachers, Learning From Lyrics,
2nd Ed. (2001): "a directory of recommended songs along with descriptions
of learning activities and instructional strategies, for incorporating contemporary
songs into a variety of subject areas. The text also provides project guides,
rate sheets and rubrics for assessing and implementing student portfolios and/or
performance projects. Additionally, you will find student exemplars, including
essays and visual art. The lyrics for many songs are included in the text, so
that students may analyze and interpret each song, as they would any other source
