CD Review

Dalglish, Malcolm
Pleasure
(Ooolitic Music)

An ambitious collection of choral settings commissioned by various children and youth choirs. The disk is highly unusual and either the songs get better or the whole thing begins to grow on you. If you are a choir director looking for choral music, this will probably find it's way to your desk - and perhaps this is the disk's major purpose. But in pieces like the title track, whose joyful noise (no lyrics, just Adieumus-like sounds) lives up to it's title, you'll wonder why more folk musicians can't diversify their interests and strike out for something more artistically ambitious. -HB
